May 10: The Correctedness of Math Across Courses
How do items like the Pythagorean Theorem come up in math courses?
We'll divide into groups based on Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, College Algebra, Calculus: The groups will each propose a problem concerning the Pythagorean theorem appropriate for the course determining the group. They will also discuss student readiness for using the Pythagorean Theorem.
John Baldwin and John Masley will lead discussions the impact of these and similar problems on Chicago classrooms. Come as a group for some departmental team-building. There are stipends and CPDU credits.
4:30 - 4:45: Sign in, informal networking
4:45: Welcome and introduction of the questions for small group discussion.
5:00: Small group workshops and networking
5:35: Readouts from the small groups to the whole team.
5:55: Light supper and networking
6:25: Follow on with small groups and a readout
7:15: Wrap-up, forms and survey, bring your parking ticket for validation
