Employment

I am a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Spring 2008 program on Representation Theory of Finite Groups at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, California. Technically, I am on leave from the University of Illinois at Chicago, but I shall not return. I am also a Research Affiliate of Reykjavík University.

Teaching

In Fall 2007 I taught Calculus I (Math 180) and Introduction to Topology I (Math 445).

Research

My research interests are in algebraic topology and representation theory of finite groups. I am currently studying p-local properties of classifying spaces of finite groups. This involves fusion systems and p-local finite groups, but also stable homotopy theory of p-completed classifying spaces.

Preprints and Papers

(with B.E.Tenner ) Homotopy type of the boolean complex of a Coxeter system, preprint [pdf]
(with B.E.Tenner ) Obtainable sizes of topologies on finite sets, submitted [pdf]
Retractive transfers and p-local finite groups, to appear in Proc. Edinburgh Math. Soc. [dvi] [ps] [pdf]
A Segal Conjecture for p-completed classifying spaces, Adv. in Math. 215 (2007) 540--568 [dvi] [ps] [pdf]
Classifying Spectra of Saturated Fusion Systems, Algebr. Geom. Topol. 6 (2006) 195--252 [dvi] [ps] [pdf]
Alternative Stable Homotopy Classification of BG^p, Topology 45 (2006) 601--609 [dvi] [ps] [pdf]

Slides

Since my subject is rather technical, I often find myself having to use slides when giving talks. Unfortunately this is not very conducive to note-taking, but I try to compensate by posting the slides here.

Encoding fusion data in the double Burnside ring, MSRI Postdoctoral Seminar, April 2008
[pdf]
A Segal Conjecture for p-completed classifying spaces, MIT Topology Seminar, November 2005 [dvi] [ps] [pdf]

Here are some notes from a lecture series I gave from October 2004 to February 2005. The lectures were based in part on my thesis Frobenius transfers and p-local finite groups but also covered classifying spectra of saturated fusion systems.
