Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago, Department of Statistics in 2006 and specializes in categorical data analysis, experimental design, bioinformatics, biostatistics, dimension reduction, and financial mathematics. He has published top journal papers on optimal design theory and efficient algorithms, and high-dimensional classification and clustering problems in genomic data and microbiome data. His research is partly supported by the National Science Foundation. Being recognized by UIC's Teaching Recognition Program Award and Graduate Mentoring Award, he is a very popular teacher and has been productive in supervising PhD, master, and undergraduate students, and developing modern statistics courses, including Stat 451 (Computational Statistics) and Stat 485 (Intermediate statistical techniques for machine learning and big data).
