Introduction to the methods of Besson-Courtois-Gallot, I
Abstract: The methods of Besson-Courtois-Gallot have been very useful over the past 15 years in several situations involving spaces of nonpositive curvature. This will be a two talk series. The goal will be to define the barycenter map, and use it to prove the Mostow rigidity theorem. I will add extra hypotheses to simplify the presentation as much as possible. I will use as little as possible from the general theory of negatively curved spaces, sticking mostly to hyperbolic space.
