The structure and spectrum of Heisenberg odometers
Abstract: Odometers, aka adding machines, are classical and ubiquitous examples of discrete dynamical systems. In this talk we study odometer actions of the Heisenberg group. We provide a complete classification of Heisenberg odometers based on the structure of their defining subgroups. We also describe how this structure determines the representations of the Heisenberg group which can arise in the spectrum of an odometer action.
