The Interaction Between Geometry and Algebra in Discrete Groups
Abstract: In recent years, increasing attention has been given to the idea that discrete groups can be analyzed by the geometric information contained within their Cayley graphs. I will informally introduce two classes of groups which have been fruitfully investigated from this perspective, as well as the proper notion of rigidity in this context and some modern results in that direction.
Though all are welcome to attend, this talk is intended to accessible to graduate students of all levels; no technical knowledge of geometric group theory is expected.
