Introduction to Group Cohomology
Abstract: I will introduce group cohomology, which concretely connects algebra and algebraic topology. I'll work through examples in lower dimensions and explain how they relate to group properties. I'll also introduce central extensions, which Hao Liang will use in his talk on November 12.
This talk will be accessible to graduate students of all levels; basic concepts from abstract algebra may be assumed, but no technical knowledge of cohomology theory will be expected.
