Rigidity theorems for essential automorphisms of parabolic geometries
Abstract: Existence of certain special Killing fields, called strongly essential vector fields, implies flatness on a nonempty open set in both conformal and projective geometry, by two independent theorems. I will discuss a generalization of these results to the class of parabolic geometries, a rich family of geometric structures whose homogeneous models include flag varieties and boundaries of symmetric spaces.
