Definable topological dynamics
Abstract: I discuss a theory of ``definable topological dynamics" namely of definable actions of a definable group on compact spaces, a special case of which is the classical abstract topological dynamics of a discrete group. The notions of topological dynamics provide new invariants for groups definable in first order theories. Conversely the model theoretic perspective provides on the face of it some new invariants for discrete groups. I will also discuss examples, such as semisimple real and p-adic Lie groups, considered as (real, p-adic) semialgebraic groups.
