Chaos and perturbations in nonlinear systems
Abstract: Most problems in contemporary science are nonlinear and often display sensitivity to initial conditions or multiscale structure. Due to these difficulties, alternative notions of "solution" must be considered. I will present some concepts from nonlinear dynamics, including chaos and perturbation response, as well as applications to problems in the mathematical geosciences.
