Simple locally compact groups
Abstract: The talk will give an account on recent tools, developed in a joint work with Colin Reid and George Willis, designed to study the class S of compactly generated, locally compact groups that are topologically simple and non-discrete. I will describe how to construct, for every member G of the class S, a compact G-space whose dynamical properties are similar to those of the Furstenberg boundary of a non-compact simple Lie group.
