Mapping class groups, Teichmuller spaces, and Marking Complexes
Abstract: I'll introduce some of the Masur-Minsky machinery, which is at the heart of much of the modern development of our understanding of the geometry of both Teichmuller spaces and mapping class groups. I'll try to motivate all this by first discussing a number of big results which use this machinery (such as the Ending Lamination Theorem), and after I introduce it, I'll discuss how it is used to prove some of them.
