Random Walks on groups and irreducibility of polynomials, matrices, and automorphisms.
Abstract: We study the irreducibility of "random" surface and free
group automorphisms, and related questions (does a random matrix have
irreducible characteristic polynomial? Is a random polynomial
irreducible? What does "random" mean?) We obtain quantitative answers
to many of the questions above.
