Compactly Presented Groups
Abstract: A finitely generated group is finitely presented if it has a presentation where both the generating set and set of relations are finite. For a topological group with a compact generating set we can ask whether the group has a presentation where the generating set is compact and the set of relations have bounded length. This is the idea of a compactly presented group. In typical geometric group theory fashion we wish to study properties of a group invariant under changing compact generating sets. More on this perspective will be shared in this hour.
