The Poincare Sphere as Surgery on a Knot
Abstract: The first of our series on the Poincare Sphere.
We will review the Wirtinger presentation of the fundamental group of a knot and introduce surgery on a knot. Using these two tools we will describe the Poincare Homology Sphere and verify some of its properties.
This talk will be accessible to students with some experience with algebraic topology.
