The Inscribed Rectangle Problem
Abstract: In 1911, Otto Topelitz conjectured that any simple closed curve in the plane must have 4 points that are the vertices of a square. In this talk, I'll touch on the history of the problem and some partial results, but most of the discussion will be focused on proving the weaker statement where 'square' is replaced with 'rectangle.'
