An Invitation to Combinatorics
Abstract: Combinatorics is a diverse field that takes inputs from several other areas of math. In this talk, I plan on presenting three different techniques that are borrowed from other areas and that have been used to produce surprising advances in combinatorics. The tentative topics that I wish to cover are: 1) Polynomials on the finite field Kakeya needle, 2) Probability on diagonal Ramsey numbers, 3) Semidefinite programming on Erdos-Ko-Rado theorem. If time doesn't permit, we'll skip one or more of the topics.
