Abstract: This recreational talk is about the epsilon tensor and how it is related to vectors in three space, quaternions, map coloring and knot invariants.
We will discuss the Penrose formula for counting edge colorings of cubic plane graphs and the author’s generalization of the Penrose formula to count the colorings of
arbitrary cubic graphs, how the Penrose formula generalizes to a perfect matching polynomial and is then related to the bracket polynomial for virtual link diagrams
(joint work with Scott Baldridge and William Rushworth), how this relates epsilons and Penrose binor calculus and the quantum group SL(2)_{q} and more.
